Seven years ago, Lenie Ramos, little twig’s founder and queen bee, was inspired to create little twig when she gave her niece a bottle of bubble bath. Lenie was then informed by her sister that her niece may get an infection if she used it. Lenie’s interest was piqued, and after some research found that there were only a tiny number of safe and mild products for babies on the market.
A graphic designer and with no background in chemistry, she consulted with pediatricians and parent friends and set up a D.I.Y research lab at home. Fully inspired and using her own money, Lenie created an initial line of shampoos and bubble baths free of parabens, sulfates and mineral oils – little twig was born!

I was very excited to read a press release today about Smiling Planet, “a new brand of art-inspired, earth-friendly lifestyle products for all ages.” The company manufactures adorable table wear including bowls made from 100% recycled polypropylene. Studies have confirmed this is a safe plastic. My favorite was their Wonderfull World plate, which reads, “The world is wonder full. Let’s make her smile.” What makes me smile is that this company, like little twig
, realizes the importance of giving back. They have aligned with Healthy Child Healthy World to raise awareness about the dangers of chemicals in children’s products. You do not have to worry about harmful chemicals in our products; little twig is made with organic and natural ingredients.

I really try to provide the best food I can for my family, but find it overwhelming to know which items I should be buying organic and which ones I am just overspending for unnecessary organic items. I recently discovered the Dirty Dozen list, which really helps me make better shopping decisions. This list includes fruits, vegetables and other foods with the highest pesticide residue so you know which foods to purchase organic to avoid contamination. I have to admit, I was missing the mark on some of the items.
To make this list really convenient, you can download a wallet size pdf or there is even an iphone application that helps you keep track of the the list!
Are there other foods that are not on the list the you alway purchase organic and why?

It’s an amazing week – Earth Day and the launch of our new blog, WOW! Since I launched little twig, I always wanted to create a space for parents and caregivers alike to share their thoughts as I listen. And it’s finally happening! In our blog you can also learn about our amazing philanthropies little twig supports, the innovative gadgets we find, and environmental tips for the family.
When I started the company, back in 2003, I was an auntie to a beautiful little girl. For her birthday I bought a bottle of bubble bath and bath toys. I figured every child loves bubbles, right? It wasn’t until then when I learned of my niece’s allergic reaction to bathing. I began to question why companies would distribute products for children that weren’t mild enough for sensitive skin. That was the beginning of my quest for something safe, natural and extra gentle for my niece. Not only did I want to give her the safest product for her sensitive skin, but a beautiful one too. That’s when I planted the seed and little twig began to grow into a lifestyle brand that makes living natural easy for modern families.
After seven years, two kids and three nieces later, I continue to focus on my values in life and business: family, environment, and responsibility. Being a business owner + mother, I take family very seriously. It’s my mission to create a family culture at my business that allows flexible working hours to benefit working parents and caretakers. Supporting my strong belief in the importance of family. With each day I strive to teach my children how important it is to maintain and respect our environment. As beneficiaries of this beautiful world, we need to cannot feel entitled but understand how lucky we are to benefit from all that our world provides us. As a company, it is our moral obligation to be responsible for the impact we are making on our community and environment. That includes maintaining a high standard for ingredients in our formulations to ensure the safety and mildness of our products. To being responsible for the plastics we distribute and reclaiming them for recycling. As a company we make decisions based on whether they meet our standards of the way we would like to do business, responsibly.
It’s been an exciting adventure these past seven years balancing the business, kids and remembering to be present. I look forward to hearing your feedback, learning what’s important to you, and sharing our wonderful products to make living natural easy.
